My darling called me shepherdess
he asked me to arise
He told me “come away with me
for white of winter flies
The flowers dust the earth again
the downpour has passed on
The dove has called from grave to grove
and pruning-time has come
The blossoms smatter on the vine
the fig tree figures fruit
And reaching fingers twin and twine
the length of branch and root.
And so my lovely shepherdess,”
