Forrest Pierce, Lord of June, for String TrioLord of June (2008)

String Trio

Program Notes

The Lord of June is the green darner dragonfly, Anax Junius. King of the skies throughout the summer months, this irridescent acrobat and master hunter is capable of flying faster than fifty miles per hour, yet stops on a dime. When mating, Anax Junius pairs form a heart-shaped flying wheel, and spin through the evening light together. With bizarre razor-comb vises for jaws, wings as thin as a sigh and as strong as glass, and a back the color of frozen spruce, the Lord of June is a miracle to behold, and a fisherman's constant companion.

Lord of June was commissioned for the inaugural season of the Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival, and was premiered by Stephen Miahky, Tim Christie, and Norbert Lewandowsky.
